Kim Birmingham, LMSW
   

Kim is a Licensed Masters Social Worker in the State of

Michigan.  She received her Bachelors of Arts degree

with high honors in 1991 from James Madison College

at Michigan State University, and her Masters of Social

Work degree with honors in 1994 from the University of

Michigan, specializing in Interpersonal Practice.  


Kim has over fourteen years of clinical experience.  She

completed her internship at Hawthorn Center, a child and

adolescent psychiatric hospital and residential treatment

center in Northville, Michigan, where she did individual,

family and group therapy.  She then spent two years treating

children and families at Detroit East, Inc., a community

mental health center in Detroit, Michigan.  She has also worked at two local psychiatric hospitals, St. Joseph Mercy­

Fox Center and Havenwyck Hospital where she facilitated groups and treated children and adolescents in crisis and their families. In addition, she was involved with the Sandcastles Grief Support program for children and adolescents for several years, co­facilitating one of their teen groups and serving as a camp counselor for their annual Camp Erin Grief Support Program. For the last four years, Kim has worked as a therapist at Perspectives Counseling Center treating children, adolescents and adults for a variety of issues including depression, anxiety and grief and loss issues.

     

Kim specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders including panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias and social anxiety as well as the treatment of depression.  Because of her extensive work in the inpatient setting she is very comfortable treating clients who struggle with suicidal ideation or self injury.  She also works extensively with women in transition (post­partum adjustment, infidelity, divorce and grief).

     

Kim is a person of deep faith and treats her role as a therapist as a calling.  She is passionate about providing comfort and helping others to heal so that they can live life to the fullest and reach their highest God­given potential.

     

Kim enjoys running, cross­country skiing and attending college football games with her husband of 22 years and three children.
